Wikinp Editorial Policy, Verification Guidelines & Contributor Roles
Wikinp is Nepal’s first community-driven digital encyclopedia. This editorial policy defines how articles are created, reviewed, and published to ensure factual accuracy, neutrality, and credibility. Every article passes through human verification by editors and administrators before publication — preventing misinformation, vandalism, and biased or false content from reaching the public.

1. Purpose of the Editorial Policy
Wikinp’s editorial policy exists to protect the reliability of information shared with the public. Its core mission is to verify facts, encourage transparency, and prevent misinformation or vandalism. Every article is reviewed by verified editors and administrators before publication to ensure:
- ✔️ Facts are accurate and supported by credible sources.
- ✔️ The content is neutral and not biased or promotional.
- ✔️ The writing respects privacy, copyright, and journalistic ethics.
- ✔️ No false, hateful, or misleading information is published.
2. Article Submission Methods
Articles can be submitted to Wikinp in two official ways:
- Guest Submission: Articles submitted without logging in. Guests cannot edit or delete after submission. Articles remain in “Pending Review” until verified by editorial staff.
- Registered Contributor: Logged-in users can write and edit their own articles. Their author name appears in the article’s edit history. They cannot delete content.
Both submission types undergo manual human review before publication. This process ensures that no AI-generated, biased, or unverifiable information is automatically published.
3. Editorial Roles & Responsibilities
| Role | Responsibilities & Permissions |
|---|---|
| Guest Contributor | Can submit an article through the public form but cannot edit or delete. Articles are reviewed by Editors/Admins before publication. |
| Registered Contributor | Can create and edit their own articles. Cannot delete. Their name appears in the article’s revision history for accountability. |
| Verified Editor | Responsible for verifying facts, citations, neutrality, and formatting. Can edit all articles but cannot delete them. Ensures compliance with Wikinp’s editorial and ethical standards. |
| Administrator | Has full editorial control. Can edit, approve, reject, or delete articles. Reviews disputed or unclear content and makes final publication decisions. |
| Reader | Can read all articles but cannot modify content. Public access ensures transparency while preventing vandalism. |
4. Why Articles Require Editorial Review
Editorial review is mandatory for every new article or major update. This process protects the encyclopedia from:
- 🚫 False or misleading claims — Editors confirm information accuracy before approval.
- 🚫 Vandalism — Unauthorized or malicious edits are blocked and monitored.
- 🚫 Plagiarism or copyright violations — Editors verify original writing and proper citations.
- 🚫 Promotional or biased content — Wikinp only accepts neutral, factual writing.
Only after a verified editor and an administrator approve the content does it become publicly visible. This two-step human review guarantees editorial integrity and prevents misuse.
5. Verification Rules & Reliable Sources
Every factual statement must be verifiable. Wikinp enforces a “Three-Source Rule”:
- Biographical, institutional, or organizational articles must include at least three reliable references.
- Accepted sources: recognized media (BBC, Kathmandu Post, Setopati), government websites, academic journals, or verified publications.
- If an article topic has limited digital documentation (such as rural or cultural subjects), it may still qualify through Editor–Admin consensus verification — where factual accuracy is confirmed through offline or local evidence.
Articles approved through consensus carry a visible label “Consensus Verified” to maintain transparency.
6. Editorial Review & Publishing Workflow
- Article is submitted by Guest or Contributor.
- Verified Editor checks sources, neutrality, tone, and plagiarism.
- If unclear, the Editor consults with an Administrator for consensus.
- Administrator performs final verification and publishes the article.
- Articles failing the standards are revised or deleted.
7. Neutrality & Ethics Policy
- Articles must represent facts from multiple perspectives without bias.
- Self-promotion, political propaganda, or defamatory material is prohibited.
- Editors must disclose conflicts of interest if personally connected to the topic.
- AI-generated content must always be verified by a human editor.
8. Anti-Vandalism & Transparency
- Only logged-in users can submit or edit articles.
- Delete permissions are limited to administrators only.
- All article changes are logged on Recent Changes for public transparency.
- Each article displays its “Last Edited” timestamp and responsible editor’s name.
9. Article Status Labels
- Verified by Wikinp — Fully verified article meeting all standards.
- Consensus Verified — Approved through editor–admin consensus for cultural or local topics.
- Needs Citations — Published but requires more references.
- Under Review — Pending editorial verification.
10. Corrections, Disputes & Takedown Requests
Errors are corrected immediately after verification. Legal or privacy-based removal requests are reviewed by administrators. Anyone can submit a correction request through the Contact Page. Wikinp may also issue editorial retractions or updates to maintain historical accuracy.
11. Scope & Notability Criteria
Wikinp covers verified knowledge about Nepal — including people, organizations, culture, education, technology, and geography. Topics must hold public, historical, or cultural significance. Articles that lack clear public relevance or verifiable facts are not published.
