Basanta Basnet is a Nepali journalist and writer whose work spans print and digital media. He is currently associated with Onlinekhabar as an editor. He joined the platform on 17 July 2022 after leaving Shilapatra, where he had been part of the editorial leadership.[1]

Professional engagement
Basnet’s journalism career has involved reporting and editorial responsibilities across newspapers, magazines, and online platforms. In the early phase of his work, he covered national politics as a correspondent for Kantipur daily. He later took on editorial duties at Nepal Magazine, a national weekly that was published by Kantipur Publications.[2]
He subsequently joined Shilapatra, an online news portal, where he served as editor-in-chief from 31 August 2020 until July 2022. During this period, the outlet was known for its focus on political reporting and explanatory journalism.[3]
Alongside these roles, he has written for several national daily newspapers, including Annapurna Today, Annapurna Post, and Nagarik.[4]
Published writing
In addition to journalism, Basnet has written books that reflect Nepal’s political transitions and social changes.
His first book, 72 ko Bismaya, was released on 8 September 2018. The book discusses the period surrounding the 2015 Nepal earthquake and the political developments that followed the promulgation of Nepal’s constitution in the same year (2072 BS).[5]
His novel Mahabhara, published on 8 January 2022 by FinePrint Publication, is set in eastern Nepal during the period of the Nepali civil war.[6]
His third book, Simsara, was published on 3 October 2024 by FinePrint Publication. The novel continues his engagement with contemporary social themes through fiction.[7]
